Medina and Vibe Hotels Open in Darwin

Press Release | April 2009

On 9 March 2009, the Medina Grand Darwin Waterfront and the Vibe Hotel Darwin Waterfront opened for business bringing 241 new hotel rooms to Darwin with some of the best views in town.

Medina Grand Darwin Waterfront offers 121 studios and one bedroom apartments incorporating the Medina qualities of apartment accommodation, space, style and home conveniences. The one bedroom apartments feature separate living and sleeping areas, a fully equipped kitchen and laundry and a grocery delivery service.

The 120 room Vibe Hotel Darwin Waterfront offers guests the chance to trade in traditional accommodation for a fresh, vibrant alternative with a contemporary edge. In line with the ‘Vibe’ style, every aspect of Vibe Hotel Darwin has been designed to mirror a great lifestyle – the rooms are stylish, the menu in the Curve restaurant is tempting and the location provides easy access to the best that Darwin has to offer.

Both hotels feature prominent indigenous Australian artworks from Arnhem Land and the Tiwi Islands as well as two major public art pieces integrated into the fabric of the building by Australian artists Mandy Ridley and Matt Huttlestone. Guests can also enjoy the shared lifestyle facilities including a pool, gym, parking and an on-site restaurant and bar named ‘Curve’.

The hotels are part of stage one of the two staged Darwin Waterfront Development which is transforming a 25 hectare former industrial site into Darwin’s new and vibrant business, tourism and recreation hub. As well as the new hotels, stage one of the Darwin Waterfront Development will see the completion of a wave lagoon, seafront promenades, harbourside restaurants and open public spaces. The Darwin Waterfront will be a seven-day-a-week public space that is designed to be attractive and accessible to everyone.

Rachel Argaman, CEO of Toga Hospitality said, “We are extremely excited to be bringing both our Medina Apartment Hotel and Vibe Hotel brands into the Darwin market as part of the Waterfront Development. Both brands have a distinctive flair that will present new offerings in the Darwin hotel market sector.”
