Scarborough’s spectacular sunsets, great surf and gorgeous beach – one of Perth’s longest uninterrupted stretches of sand - is a must-do on any visit to Western Australia. Its bustling foreshore, with loads of activities for all the family, is a whole lot more reason to head there.
Just 15 minutes’ drive from the Adina Apartment Hotel Perth, Adina Apartment Hotel Perth Barrack Plaza, and Rendezvous Hotel, Scarborough retains a wonderful laid-back vibe despite a stunning $100 million transformation of its foreshore a few years ago.
Its trademark smoothie bars, bright and breezy brunch spots and huge selection of Esplanade restaurants and cafés are great places to kick back and relax. Soak up the atmosphere with cocktails and Mexican street food at El Grotto or snuggle up in an uber-cute booth at The Peach Pit.
Insider Tip: watch the sun set over the Indian Ocean is Sunset Hill, at the northern end of Scarborough Beach. Bring a rug and snacks, settle back to enjoy uninterrupted 180-degree views.
People come from all over for the Scarborough Sunset Markets, on Thursday evenings from November through to April, and Saturday evenings from May to October. During this time, Scarborough is transformed into a hive of activity with pop-up bars, food vans, craft stalls, and live music.
A state-of-the-art playground, skateboard, tennis, basketball, swimming and barbecue facilities make the Scarborough foreshore a great destination for the whole family. Daring young (and young-at-heart) skateboarders head to the Snake Pit, while a climbing wall caters for small children right through to serious climbers.
Let the kids burn off energy on the swings and slides in the whale-themed playground, which interprets Aboriginal Dreaming stories. Take a dip in the 50m heated lap pool or the heated, lagoon-style leisure/kiddy pool.
The beautiful beach, patrolled 365 days of the year, is a great spot to catch a wave. Make the most of it and learn to surf at Go Surf Perth, a family-owned business with accredited surfing coaches who are passionate about what they do. The beach is also popular for kite surfing and wind surfing.
A hop, step and jump from downtown Perth, Scarborough makes for a fun-filled getaway. And when you want to rest your head, catch up on some washing, or enjoy some downtown shopping and dining, you can retreat to a fully equipped one-, two- or three-bedroom serviced apartment in Adina Perth or Adina Perth Barrack Plaza. Alternatively, a stay at Rendezvous Hotel Scarborough puts you right along the sandy shores, where you have a front row seat to WA’s iconic sunset.
