Tucked away next to the iconic Kings Park on the outskirts of the CBD, John Oldham Park boasts lush waterfalls, quiet walking tracks, and abundant birdlife. Best of all, it’s the kind of oasis you’d walk straight past if you didn’t know it was there, allowing it to feel like its own little world.
For scenery of a different kind, take a stroll through the vibrant laneways of Perth’s CBD. As well as an abundance of cosy coffee shops and trendy small bars, you’ll find some seriously impressive street art. Keep an eye out for the bold Robert Jenkins piece in Brookfield Place, the colorful wall in Wolf Lane, and the murals either side of the coffee window at local haunt, Graffiti.
While you’re checking out Perth’s cultural scene, make time to stop in at His Majesty’s Theatre on Hay Street. Over 110 years old, this building is a masterclass in Edwardian grandeur, featuring stunning mosaics, intricate woodwork, solid marble, and lots of plush velvet. In addition to the impressive architecture, you’ll also find a world class program at ‘The Maj’. Opera, ballet, musicals, and plays fill up the schedule, ensuring there’s always something worth watching.
A stay at Rendezvous Hotel Perth Central(where you’ll find two-bedroom apartments perfect for groups who want that little extra space), Adina Apartment Hotel Perth, or refreshingly simple Travelodge Hotel Perth will put you an easy stroll from all these secret attractions.
Prefer to spend your time in Perth outside of the CBD? We’ve got local secrets for you too.
Bennion Beach is a 30 minute walk along the sand north of Scarborough. It’s dog friendly, calm and sheltered (thanks to limestone cliffs and a well-placed reef), and — if you go early in the morning — chances are you’ll have it all to yourself.
If you want to appreciate the beach from a different angle, head to Reabold Hill Lookout, located between the coast and the CBD. It’s the highest point in the city, and offers stunning views out over the Indian Ocean. While you can drive up, there are also numerous walking trails to explore if you’re feeling more energetic.
If either of these two suggestions tickle your fancy, book yourself a room at Rendezvous Hotel Scarborough, where you’ll be within easy distance from them both. Rendezvous Scarborough is one of Perth’s only beachfront hotels, and there’s no better place to soak in the ocean air than at Straits Cafe. Settle in for the amazing Green Ant Gin and Blood Orange Panna Cotta and wash it down with the hotel’s signature cocktail, ‘The Last Word’ — a refreshing mix of Green Chartreuse, Green Ant Gin, Maraschino Liqueur and fresh lime.
