National Museum of Australia
General admission to the museum is free and they have an exhibition for the kids. Kspace is an interactive adventure game where you can build your own robot and then fly back through time to explore Australia’s past. With plenty to see and touch, this is a real winner for kids aged 3 to 12.
Royal Australian Mint
Grab a ‘My Visit to the Mint’ activity book on your way in and spend the day completing puzzles and learning about how coins are made. The Mint is really interactive and kid friendly and you can even make your own coin while you’re there.
Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve
Feed the pelicans, learn about the endangered corroboree frog and get up close to water bugs all at the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve. For only $11.50 for a family of up to 8, you can experience the reserve by yourselves, or join a guided tour with one of the knowledgeable Rangers. They have a heap of tours and activities organized for the school holidays with hands on, up close and personal experiences for the kids at no additional cost.
Canberra Glass Works
Get blown away at one of Canberra’s most loved art houses and watch the talented artists at work in the hot shop creating all kinds of glass masterpieces. The kids will marvel at the unique techniques used, pulling and blowing hot glass to create a range of shapes and objects– plus, entry is free!
National Arboretum Pod Playground
Want to guarantee a solid night’s sleep for all? Check out the National Arboretum with their new Pod Playground for the kids. The Arboretum is home to a gorgeous collection of greenery including Japanese bonsais as well as cedar and pine plantations. Fly a kite or ride a bike around the grounds and take in the beautiful surroundings. The kids will love the Pod Playground, a maze of acorns and tunnels!

Educational and a relaxing place to cool down or hide from the rain – the National Library of Australia ticks plenty of boxes! Check out their Wordplay family activity space where you can read a book, write, draw and play. Grab a coffee on the way in and enjoy an hour of zen while the kids dive into a Dahl.
