Sydney is an Instagram dream come true with its glittering harbour and endless sandy beaches wrapping around a rugged coastline. On a sunny day, you don’t even need a photo filter to get your friends back home wishing they had bundled themselves into your suitcase.
But with so many sensational places to visit in Sydney, where does a snap-happy traveller begin? Here’s a local’s perspective on hunting down the best Insta-worthy vantage points that will have your followers double-tapping with delight.
Bondi Icebergs Club - 1 Notts Ave, Bondi Beach
The view overlooking the world-famous Bondi Beach from the Bondi Icebergs Club is nothing short of spectacular. Sit back and relax on the balcony with a cool beverage and be sure to have your best beachwear on and your phone at the ready. With aqua-hued baths below, sun lovers dotted across the golden sand, and gradients of breathtaking blue water stretching all the way to the horizon, it’s near impossible to take an average shot here.
Luna Park - 1 Olympic Dr, Milsons Point
Check off two iconic Sydney landmarks in one snap with a visit to Luna Park. The first is the entrance gate, an enormous grinning face – just perfect for giving your Instagram followers a pop of kaleidoscopic colour in their feed. The second is the proximity it offers to the magnificent Harbour Bridge. Take a whirl on the Ferris wheel for sky-high snaps of Sydney’s best visual assets. Entry to Luna Park is free but you need to buy a Pass if you want to go on the Ferris wheel or any of the rides.
Insider Tip: You can take the train to Milsons Point to reach Luna Park, but a ferry from Circular Quay is the most picturesque way to arrive. Snap a photo on the water with your hair blowing in the breeze!
Taronga Zoo - Bradleys Head Rd, Mosman (take the ferry from Circular Quay)
There’s only one place in the world where you can snap a giraffe chilling out with the Harbour Bridge and the gleaming white sails of the Opera House looming in the background. Yes, there is plenty of stellar Instagram material at Taronga Zoo. Come for the cute and cuddly koalas and stay for the awe-inspiring views of this beautiful harbour city.
Jacarandas in bloom
You know it’s spring in Sydney when the jacaranda trees are painting the city streets in a sea of purple. The good news is that there are dozens of locations throughout the city where you can capture an amazing Instagram shot. The streets of Kirribilli provide some of the prettiest views, while Circular Quay is probably the most accessible location. The bad news is it’s hard to find a spot that hasn’t already been discovered by crowds of snap-happy people.
Strickland House and Milk Beach - Vaucluse Rd, Vaucluse
Last, but definitely not least, is a picturesque location where Sydneysiders in the know go to frolic in the secluded waters of Milk Beach and laze on the green lawns under the commanding presence of heritage-listed Strickland House. Strickland House is in Sydney’s affluent eastern suburb of Vaucluse and the beautiful gardens are open to the public. From the entrance gate, head down towards the water to access the cute and compact Milk Beach which affords you sweeping views of Sydney city and the harbour. Pack a picnic and your swimwear – you won’t regret it. Happy Instagramming!
